HOTEL INDIGO ~ ADELAIDE, South Australia

Hello,

It has been a long time indeed since we've ROAMED properly.  This post, due to zero access to foreign travelling for fun, emotional or spiritual growth or curiosity, is basically for Australians!

I truly get sick and tired - ANGRY and BEFUDDLED - at ignorant people who continue to state 'Adelaide is boring'.  If you think/believe Adelaide is boring...you BEST look in the mirror because it is quite evident:  YOU ARE BORING.  That's it in a nutshell.

Tinto and I roamed into our beloved city in the middle of week, the 7th of April, for our 20th wedding anniversary.  We weren't looking for anything decadent...we simply wanted something away from our country abode where we've been working so frantically for the past few months.

An interesting announcement popped up on my phone a few months back and it continued to do so.  As annoying as I find these pop-up advertisements, admittedly, when/if there is a story involved I'm interested in, I take the time to read.

Apparently, Hotel Indigo opened around the first of March, 2021.  I like 'NEW' when it comes to hotels because I don't care how long you've been rated 5 STARS - you better stay on top of the upkeep - lots of things can go downhill quickly.  I visited the website. I saw 'quirky' and very 'boutique-ish'.  I like both of those descriptions and I know Tinto is in absolute agreement.

I booked.  I booked a suite.  The suite was not huge, but it was NEW and FUNKY.  Plush carpeting and art deco designs are in hallways and exterior, but the rooms have a 'studio feel' or (I imagine) the smaller rooms must feel like groovy student pads.  I did not see one of the regular rooms.  We will take a smaller room with an open, wide balcony from which to take-in the city views any day.  We didn't need much room.  Bedroom was private and bed was tremendously comfortable! Lounge room had everything anyone needed and the balcony allowed tons of light to sweep into the room.  The bathroom was exquisite - roomy enough with a great shower - and large sink/mirror area WITH, for this old heifer, an illuminated make-up mirror WITH MAGNIFICATION for these old, cataract-riddled eyes.  I don't think I've worn make-up in MONTHS - WHAT A JOY!  I digress.

So, IF you are searching for plush, deep comfort carpeting, and a huge over-sized tub you can sink your tired body into - this is not the hotel for you.

HOWEVER, IF YOU LOVE the Adelaide Market and Market Street and LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION - go now - give Hotel Indigo a try.  The staff, from the moment we walked through the sliding doors until our departure, were ON TOP of ANY and EVERY REQUEST I made.  I made a few - it was, you know, our 20th and I wanted a few special items.  Hotel staff complied in a speedy manner, each and every time, wearing glistening, broad smiles.  Ooooooh, the joy of customer service and customer satisfaction!

Hotel Indigo's roof bar is MAGIC - Tinto and I almost waited too long to saunter upstairs because the sun was setting quickly.  Now this is a groovy space and the views were amazing.  Cocktails galore served (again) with broad and beautiful smiles and you will simply want to slide into one of the booths and...PARK IT FOR A WHILE.  We could not have been happier.  This splendid space is known as the Merrymaker Rooftop!  My martini was MOST MERRYFUL.

We were contemplating which Adelaide restaurant we would choose for dinner, but...Tinto said, 'I have an even better idea - let's not leave the hotel - let's not meet another commitment, let's stay here.'  I said, 'For dinner??? - We don't know anything about this place'.  And, Tinto smirked and said, 'Well, that's WHY we're here'.  I could not argue with that.  We took the elevator downstairs to the outrageous and colourful bar and dining area and were seated instantly in the most private, small area they had available.  This special restaurant is called the Market & Meander Eatery & Bar - rustic and delicious - and most fortunate to be utilising local produce - from right around the corner.  YAY!  This was a no-brainer and a WIN-WIN dinner!

So, off you GO - BOOK NOW.  Support Local.  Support NEW (AND OH, SO CLEAN).  Support boutique hotels and become a tourist, once again, in this gorgeous little city called Adelaide.  By the way, to my Memphis Mates - Adelaide AND Memphis have been paired as SISTER CITIES.  Fabulous.  You'll turn out of Hotel Indigo - sneeze - and you'll be on MARKET STREET!  OUTSTANDING!

Prices DO vary in weekday rates and weekend rates - but, that's fairly normal with most hotels.  Hotel Indigo is located on 23-29 Market Street, Adelaide SA 5000 and phone number is: 08 8472 2400 - We want to book again the next time we need a BIG ADELAIDE MARKET SHOPPING TRIP!

Have Fun.  Stay Safe.  Be kind.  Get UP and OFF that sofa.

Cheers,
The Roaming Stevens
PS:  As I was waiting outside with the hand luggage for Tinto, a couple (my vintage or older) approached me eagerly and asked, 'How was it'?  I replied, 'Simply delightful.  The staff will bend over backwards for you and the upstairs roof bar is fabulous'.  Well, of course, HE comprehended my American accent instantly and replied, 'My Dear, HERE we refer to them as pubs.'  REALLY?  REALLY?  I was quite bemused because each and every staff member welcomed us to their ROOFTOP BAR.   Not one staff member uttered the word 'pub' - Hmmmmmmm - NOT one.  I smiled like a Cheshire Cat.
