Pushing it to the limits...
Beginning any new endeavor is never easy. It's a bit stressful, too. We put expectations on ourselves, don't we? Some of us set the bar at a natural place, some of us set the bar high, some of us may set the bar far TOO high. Who makes the decision? We do. Each of us have our own motor, compass, and indicator. We make the choices. I have learned over the decades that stepping out of my comfort zone forces me to grow and ultimately take a good look at myself. Each and every different turn I have taken, position I have accepted, or course I have attended has made me a stronger person. I am no different from anyone else.
This week is pre-university week. I will be submerged in the study of Psychological Science and Sociology and I simply can't wait. I have already spent hours pouring over the course work and I am intrigued. In 3 days I shall be one month old in my NEW JOB which I find quite intriguing and stimulating. I had great fear. The job I wanted had to be alluring and sophisticated simply because I HAD A NEED TO BE INSPIRED. I did not want to serve coffee or wine or food of any type. I wanted to be surrounded by talented people and feel as if I were a part of the community again. And, due to full-time study, work needed to be very part-time. My dreams came true. Tick. Tick. Tick. Every desire my heart held was bestowed upon me by new place of employment. No one else was going to make it happen for me. I had to take that big step outside of my comfort zone and ASK for what I wanted. How can you get what you want without asking or 'putting it out there'? Simply exposing my needs and wants, walking into this establishment COLD, and sharing my desires was daunting, but the task delivered the goods. Do it. IF there is something you are considering that you would really like to do, why not begin now? WHAT are you waiting for? There is no perfect time - ever.
It is wonderful to watch the amount of guests filtering through the JamFactory from literally all over the world and they walk away in astonishment. Some feel the need to voice the fact that when they return to their homeland they'll pick up painting again or ceramics or jewelry making. There is a lot of positive energy in the air and you can FEEL it. A lot of people ask for the knife maker's details and they go home and go on-line and sign up for a course. I've been told a judge from the city took one knife making course, fell absolutely in love with it, redesigned his backyard shed, and now he makes knives as a hobby.
It only takes a moment, a person, an experience to inspire you.
Meeting new colleagues at work has been invigorating for me, too. It is enjoying for me to be around people of all ages because each of us have stories, don't we? It is uplifting to see young people speak of their dreams and academic goals and the future they see for themselves. It is a true joy to listen to people from South Africa, Russia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Canada, and beyond describe their view of Australia.
So consider these words for a moment...
meaningful
uplifting
healthy
strong
art
music
spirituality
happy
learning
intriguing
inspiring
motivational
giving
sharing
teaching
adventurous
Is your life filled with any of the above mentioned words? Is there a particular word you would like to experience more of in your life?
Don't wait for permission. Don't wait for the right time. After six decades on this planet, I know I'm not waiting for anything I want to include in my life any longer. Well, except...electric bass guitar lessons. I have this gorgeous, red, Yamaha baby pleading with me to pick her up and start learning her chords.
I have learned no matter what ~ I cannot have it all. I can have some of it, some of the time, but, NO, I cannot do it all and be successful in any endeavor when I take on too much.
Perhaps you can and IF so, I salute you ~ hats off to you and, PLEASE, share how you do it.
Carpe diem!
