SPLENDID 'SALA' ~ Riverton, South Australia
Tinto and I were fortunate enough to be invited to the SALA (South Australia Living Artists Festival) in Riverton on Sunday. The day began with brilliant sun quickly turning into grey skies, crushing cold, and dreary rain, but...INSIDE the Riverton Gallery was...absolute MAGIC.
For my American and 'other' mates - if this exhibition does not make you want to FLY TO US NOW ~ what ever will???
We were mesmerised ~ a Cappella singing surrounding us, mumuring up to the tall ceilings and falling gently down around us. Chilling. The Vocali Chamber Chorale performed for us as the opening act and their voices moved me to a place back in time and transported me to a different setting. Tinto and I had a chat and we felt transformed...splendid group ~ outstanding performance. IF you see this choir listed on any future SALA exhibition or ANYWHERE - GO if you can! Gentle, glorious, singing - good for the soul. Two of Kapunda's 'own' - Carmine and BJ graced us with their presence and now we know what hidden talents have been simmering under the surface! AMAZING. Congratulations! Well Done!
Alison Mitchell Hannaford spoke next and talked about nature and light and the way she prefers to paint genuine items...items surrounding her in her home and her life and as I have stated in previous posts, Alison does this exquisitely - painting life and light. I will let the photos I took speak for themselves. My advice to you is GO to the Riverton Gallery for a real treat. Check fb or their website for opening times!
Robert 'Alf' Hannaford spoke after Alison and described so beautifully a homeless man, named Hans, whom Alf asked permission to paint. No doubt there must have been hundreds of drawings in order to reach the sublime results. Alf slowly got to know Hans through the many sittings and Hans' life was not easy - the pain, the poignancy is captured in every portrait. These drawings capture what is real in life for many - pain, sadness, and perhaps...regret. One wonders exactly what Hans' thoughts were while he remained 'still' for Alf. GO. GO to the Riverton Gallery...
Have a look ~ posted in 'awe' by Blanco of The Roaming Stevens - 'Roaming towards Art' any available chance.
Be safe and kind out there ~ please excuse any typos.
Now, on to Alf's very moving pieces...

SIMPLY STUNNING and SPECTACULAR - each and every one...
A TREAT FOR THE EYES! You will want to take one home with YOU! Alison's work is strong, vibrant, and OUTSTANDING.
Ending on a SWEET NOTE ~ HOW GORGEOUS IS THIS? WOW! Check out the water in the vase. Sooooooo real - makes me want to take the vase to the kitchen and fill her a little! 'WOW' AGAIN.

The Artist.
Alf's dog...posing quietly by Hans' side...
Captivated by all drawings, but this last one especially moved me...
One of Alf's sculptures greeting us~!
WHAT A DAY.
Thanks to Alf and Alison for such a special and splendid afternoon...
