Most interesting AND intriguing time..., too.
How many of you lie awake at night with a hundred questions burning your mind?
My mind won't stop.
The dearest 'study buddy' a gal could ever ask for - far away in Perth, Western Australia - is grappling with many of the same subject matters racing through my head. We've been studying British economist, John Maynard Keynes (1883 - 1946) and watching his economic theories literally LEAP from the pages of text - mind-boggling that his predictions and theories resonate in contemporary life and he, no doubt, is looking down, arms-crossed, smiling like a Cheshire cat.
We wonder - we are intrigued by the economics and politics in play at present in Australia and with each day a new policy is developed...more questions arise.
I am also astonished by the fact that money can so easily trickle down - when needed. We (Australia AND the world) most certainly did not NEED a pandemic to alert us to the fact that domestic abuse is rampant and communities/shelters/individuals doing their best work to help members of the community to survive THIS ABUSE needed serious financial assistance long before COVID19 occurred.
And...Again...Forever...Always...WHAT ABOUT the homeless? Are the homeless such a threat to communities that governments want to place them in hotels and 'other' facilities simply because these people have NO place in which to isolate? I think it goes deeper than that...then, I stop and consider: Are these measures to protect the communities (the public) or to help protect the vulnerable - the homeless? I honestly do not know. These measures do not look/feel right simply because these specific actions should have been taken OR NOW, WE KNOW, COULD have been taken months or decades prior to COVID19.
When the government WANTS to do something - it ACTS. COVID19 has shown us that ~ it brought out the true colours of this government - ANY sitting government.
COVID19 did not come with an instruction manual; there is no booklet designed to tell us the best actions to take. Overall, I think the world leaders listening (the ones genuinely listening!!!) to the top health/epidemiology experts on how to guide us along - have been doing the best job they could with the news that was imparted to them. Was the 'news' shared when it should have been? HOW on Earth will mere mortals such as us ever know the real truth? We will not - or we won't for a very long time to come...
How will this economic injection in every major country affect its citizens in the very near future and in the long-term outlook?
What will the future of refugees look like? How will COVID19 alter Australia's immigration policies...world immigration policies? Has the processing of visas and permanent residencies and awards of citizenship ceased altogether? This makes me think of how many people are living their lives in ABSOLUTE limbo. America and Australia were built on the backbone of immigrants.
We have already witnessed the cessation of high school graduations. What will the 'first year' for university students look and feel like? IT IS A BRAND NEW WORLD. How long will gatherings be on-line? How many numbers will continue to 'make up' a social gathering? WHO KNOWS?
Will the elderly (OUR Mothers and Fathers) become tired, distressed, dismayed, and depressed over the long-term loneliness and simply opt OUT on living?
I see more suicides - not only from the elderly - but, all sorts of extremely vulnerable people - people whom were suffering long before the days of 'STAY HOME'. Everyday I worry about the children who are SAFER at SCHOOL than they are living in their own homes...and this thought breaks me. And...I don't know what to do. Now that we have extra time on our hands - research charities - look at their history - try to work out how much percentage of donated monies goes towards administration fees - you'll want to 'steer clear' of those guys. Australia has a lot of outstanding organisations which have been doing some great work for decades and deserve our attention throughout this crisis and beyond. I like The Smith Family. I would love to hear your thoughts through this transition period. WHAT concerns you most OR are you amazed OR intrigued by anything you have witnessed so far? Feel free to comment in the box below this post! I DO see many positive changes to lifestyles - IF you 'see' some positives, too, derived from COVID19 - would very much like for you to share IN THIS SPACE.
Taking life day...by...day and enjoying the moments and NOT over-compensating. Life IS very 'normal' for us. WE prefer to say 'physical distancing' instead of 'social distancing' because we are 'staying socially connected' through WhatsApp, FB messaging, phone calls, and those glorious emails. WE much prefer to hear voices, at least, and/or see faces on a screen!
