Adelaide Fringe and MORE!

The precious city of Adelaide is...THRIVING!  Because Tinto and I live in a regional, rural area, we do not get to the city that often and when we do it is normally a very rushed day filled with appointments and errands.  We always try to end the day with a wonderful meal.  We tell ourselves that we will branch out and go someplace new and enticing...yet, we always end up back at Amalfi's - TRIED AND TRUE.

So, my fb page is blowing up and text messages are ever increasing because we are all REVIEWERS, aren't we?  And, don't you appreciate it when someone sees or experiences something they adore and are so excited about it that they simply cannot wait to tell you to 'GET THERE'? I know I do.  IF I can feel the joy and/or the excitement, it makes me want to go.

IF you are one of our dear mates from abroad, let me give you a little history.  The Adelaide Fringe Festival is an annual arts festival and it is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.  It is held in the city, of course, and runs for 31 days in the months of February and March.  This activity began in 1960 when a very small group of independent artists got 'fed up' with the arts scene and simply created their own.  So, keep in mind, if/when you are contemplating a trip to Australia, October is THE MOST GLORIOUS month, but you will find 1200 outrageous or serious or hilarious acts to experience throughout the Fringe!

First message late at night with another one pinging in the morning from a completely different group:  IF you love David Bowie, you simply MUST go see the show 'REBEL' - this guy can sing and he is a real treat.  That motion was seconded!   Tinto and I are MAD about BOWIE!

Second post:  Linda Bull and Sime Nugent's tribute to Willie Nelson (Fringe Tix) - DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND GET THERE!  Well, I am a die-hard Willie Nelson FREAK and it does not look as if I am going to get the chance to see him anytime soon...so, Tinto, are you reading this?

And, the BIGGEST SURPRISE of all was when we dined with some of our dearest mates and THEY announced we were going to see a Fringe Show at the Bake House featuring Bob Paisley, from good ole' Missouri of the U.S. of A. in 'The Professor'.  AMAZING.  Over an hour long monologue and you felt as if you were in his lecture hall.  Such a genuinely kind and affable person 'in person', too.  AMURICANS SHURE DO KNOW HOW DA HUG ~ especially if they are Southern.  Cheers!

Another real gem in the city is Semaphore by the beach.  A wild and wonderful gathering of women for a birthday night set this little town on FIRE.  I missed a lot of the action because, well, I had to be responsible and work the next day, but the portion I was involved with was lively and filled with laughter.  Honestly, you can travel all over the world, but driving into Semaphore's main street and watching the sun set on the beach is still quite magical.  YOU BREATH IN SEMAPHORE.  YOU SMILE IN SEMAPHORE.  GO.  EXPLORE.  ROAM.  Adelaide and its people will remain in your heart and etched in you memories forever.  As long as the journey might be for you, every uncomfortable moment in that airplane seat, every time your leg falls asleep or you wake yourself up from snoring and when you lose count of how many airplane meals you have digested (or not)...IT WILL BE WORTH THE EFFORT.

ROAM.  Tinto and I will see you when you get here...

Cheers, Blanco of The Roaming Stevens xxo
