Sassy Lass ~ Worth a visit ~ Riverton, South Australia

A greate mate introduced me to a lovely, little boutique in the heart of Riverton ~ never expected anything quite like this and was ASTOUNDED.

Everyone knows how easy it is to sit in front of your computer or hop on your laptop and make a purchase from E-bay or Amazon and have a package plonked at your front door.  But...is it right?  Can't we do better?

Ethical purchasing - ethical products - and above all - supporting Australia and Australians, the state of South Australia, your local community, and the villages in which YOU are connected - isn't that a more logical and preferred way of 'doing business'?  

I am all for 'Op-Shopping' - it's fun, quirky, and most of the time you can land a really good surprise.  But, I cannot 'Op-Shop' for foundation or any sort of make-up for my face.  

So, a 'Great Mate' introduced me to Tara, make-up artist extraordinaire AND creator of her own products.  We were welcomed into this groovy, funky, eclectic little shop (former bank in Riverton) surrounded by beautiful items, well-made capes and panchos, and luscious textiles for your body!  Tara whisked us into her parlour and worked her magic on BOTH of us.

For years, make that DECADES, I have been rubbing horrid, nasty ingredients and chemicals on my face and my eyes and I have never, ever wanted any products to be tested on animals.  I understand that the public cannot be sold items unless they are tested first...but, if company directors KNOW ingredients are natural and gentle ~ there would be no need for animal testing, RIGHT?

So...why not use natural and organic ingredients?  Probably because they are more expensive and not as easy to access and much more difficult to mass produce.  The right path - the "KIND" path is not always the easiest to take.

Take a morning or afternoon out of your life - make an appointment with Tara Barnacle Watts of Quercus Skin Therapies - let her take a really GOOD look at your raw and natural skin (scary!)...then, let her work HER MAGIC in the most gentle way.  Nothing pushy about Tara - and she does not/will not up-sell you anything.  Tara explains her hand-made products, describes the ingredients - why they are used and needed and mixes a 'SPECIAL POWDER' just for YOUR skin tone.  

This is the real reason for this post:  I am decades old.  I have used hundreds, probably thousands of foundations and other make-up in my life, and my face has always felt 'heavy' - or perhaps a better word would be 'smothered'.   THOSE DAYS ARE GONE.  Tara taught us how to apply our own 'perks' and watched us and instructed us how to do things properly before releasing us!  Yesterday, I applied my 'new look' on my own - made a mistake which was a VERY EASY fix and walked out the door for work feeling as if NOTHING was on my face, but moisturizer.  In.  Awe.  But, THE BEST ASPECT?  For the first time in my entire existence...I did not have to re-touch my make-up once - NOT ONE single time and I did not constantly touch my face as I find myself doing - a lot - because my face usually/normally feels uncomfortable with make-up.  THOSE DAYS ARE FOREVER GONE.

After our glorious 'new, fresh, vibrant look', we stepped into Bronwyn's parlour and became 'Sassy Lasses' - supporting these 2 Australian women with their 'Positively Smashing' items and being particular, purchasing some looks that would last a lifetime ~ if we so desired.  Classic - gorgeous - REAL.  You can even get 'personally fitted' for luxurious bras (Goddess Bras~!) and lingerie.  YOU DON'T HAVE TO DRIVE TO THE CITY.  You do not have to buy on-line.  The personal touch is SO much more inviting and, again, you are supporting your region, your community, your state.  China has received enough money from each and every one of us.  Now, I did not look at every label in the store, but I looked closely at the purchases I made and I chose AUSTRALIA every step of the way.

Bronwyn ~ 'Well Done' and Tara 'You are my new Go-To person for ethical magic for my face' - OUTSTANDING.  AMAZING.  BRILLIANT.  FUN ~ SO WORTH THE SMALL AND BEAUTIFUL DRIVE.  It was an absolute pleasure meeting you both and we shall meet again!

 Trust me...it takes a lifetime to become happy in your own skin.  What do we want?  What we don't have.  I always wanted tan, bronze-coloured skin and thick, wavy hair.  YOU KNOW WHAT I WANT NOW?  Exactly what I have.  Muslin skin - the colour of soft, white cotton.  As my grand-daughter always says, 'YOU GET WHAT YOU GET and YOU DON'T PITCH A FIT'.  Well said, My Darling One.  Please ~ don't wait a lifetime to be happy in YOUR

Sculptures at Aileron Roadhouse in the Northern Territory

Could not wait to share these pics with you.  THIS WAS ANOTHER VERY SPECIAL SPOT and I felt privileged to be there.  Tinto and I did not know anything about the sculptures, but I began digging and did a little research.  MIND-BOGGLING - MAGNIFICENT.  LARGER (in life) THAN YOU COULD IMAGINE!   Ted Egan calls himself a 'Bush man'.  He was born in Melbourne, but moved to the Northern Territory at age 16 and fell in love with the place.  Ted is a song-writer, singer, and has made 13 one hour documentary films titled 'This Land Australia'.  His son, Mark Egan, is the sculptor of these figures featured below and took the love his father had of the Northern Territory a step further by creating and sculpting these monumental figures representing Australia's First Peoples.  I was in awe. Constance Gordon-Johnson 29.07.50 - 21.01.00

Constance Gordon-Johnson, my sister and my only sibling, was a force to be reckoned with...from a VERY early age. Constance was hugely talented and winning art awards from the age of 12.  Plus, Constance was academically brilliant and was able to skip the 11th grade all together in high school. So, yes, it WAS very difficult living in her shadow, but as intimidating as she could be, I was always her secret admirer. Constance pushed everyone in her sphere to be a better person - a more intelligent person and she taught all around her to care about the environment, but...most importantly to take care of and protect every sort of animal that inhabits the earth.  In Constance's world animals were far more important than humans.  Constance was that kind of gal.  My Mom had a very old newspaper clipping from The Commercial Appeal (Memphis, Tennessee) that shows Constance with a pair of pliers getting a fish hook out of a duck's bill.  She was successful yet...
