Art ~ therapy.

Who knew?  No one ever told me that if you sit before a blank canvas and begin 'painting away'...your mind goes 'quiet'.  You know that continual loop that goes 'round and round' when you're doing the most mundane things?  Or while driving?  Or while walking?  Or jogging - when you're trying like Hell to simply concentrate on STEPS, but NO, constant chatter coming in 'loud and clear' when you least want it.

When I write my mind drifts off to 'other subjects' or one, tiny word can bring an avalanche of memories rushing in and my brain takes on a 'life of its own' and goes where it will.

Bonjour Barossa ~ a delightful treat last Sunday featured at Seppeltsfield Winery where the focus was on 'All Things French'.  HEAVEN.  Tiny firepits scattered throughout the landscape, marquees spread about to keep the guests warm and, at least, a thousand people attended.  Why not?  French champagne, French cheeses and bread, even a class from Fino's Fine Chef, Sam, to teach anyone interested how to make sourdough.  It's been a long time since I've planned a day simply for myself and a good mate was kind enough to 'hop right into the fun' and she was as surprised as I was to find delectable delights and an outstanding atmosphere.  A groovy, live band featuring a lovely woman with a sultry, warm voice singing her heart out ~ yes, all French songs!  Macarons in every colour - the aroma of chocolate wafting through the air - and Owen Andrews outdid himself with Beef Bourguinon topped with tiny, crispy tidbits of sweet potato.  Unbelievable - warm, gorgeous treats to eat on a very fresh and cold day.  My good mate and I made plans to paint.  Yep.  Rightio.  Indeed.  We were intrigued and bequiled and could not wait to see what it was all about.  Our teacher was from SOUTH DAKOTA and was a long way from home!  Jen was our Creative Director and she had her hands full.  Wine was flowing along the rows of easels, but...whaaaaaat?  We could not drink because we were concentrating!  I bet anyone watching could have seen the cogs turning in our brains!  Everyone was chattering away and it felt like a 'speed painting class'.  I know it wasn't, but our hands were flittering about and most of us (not all) had NO CLUE WHAT we were doing.  It was THE MOST FUN and what I discovered was that our brains (my brain) needs to be exposed to a variety of new situations and my hands, TOO!

I recommend it for anyone ~ learning new skills, entering new arenas, discovering something about yourself that you never knew...stepping outside of your comfort zone is actually 'comfortable' because it's PURE FUN.  Plain and simple.

And...once again...it MUST be because my brain was using an area different from university studies and unique from sitting down and writing fiction, but it responded in the most delightful way - it turned off.  My head became quiet.  So, rather I am good or not, when Tinto returns we are taking our easels out and that man of mine is going to show me a thing or two!

Well Done, Nicole Hodgson, Tourism & Events Manager with Seppeltsfield Winery for providing an absolutely brilliant day for a massive amount of guests.  We are keen to return next year and hope to bring more wonderful mates so they, too, can discover 'All Things French'.

Bonsoir' from the non-talented Blanco of the Roaming Stevens!

Enjoy a small smattering of our very French experience...
