Constance Gordon-Johnson Sculpture Prize Award ~ 2019
'WOW' ~ This was the 15th annual prize award with UniSA and Tinto and I could not be more thrilled!
Constance, a thriving artist and my only sibling, had the foresight to leave an endowment in her will for a 'sculptor artist of merit'. UniSA is the trustee of this award and manages the exhibition and the award process superbly.
This year there were seven (7) students (Honours) and each and every participant happened to be female. An 'all female' cast was most magnificent (to me!) and we were gobsmacked by the quality of work presented this particular year. It sounds trite to say 'each one could have been the winner', but these observations are most true this year. There is always only one recipient of the Constance Gordon Johnson Sculpture Prize Award and we were most pleased to present the 2019 award to Izabella Shaw.
Go! Get to UniSA on Hindley Street for a viewing of "In Situ" and the Constance Gordon-Johnson Sculpture Prize Award in the Barbara Hanrahan Building and skip over to the Kaurna Building to view the exhibition hall there, too.
The seven entrants were (not in any particular order...):
Jasmine Venezia
Kathryn Ellison
Amber Cronin
Carolyn Beckett
Izabella Shaw
Meng Zhang
Truc Truong
Here is a smattering of their work: (Apologies ~ these pics do NOT do these works justice.)
Heartfelt Congratulations to Izabella Shaw ~ Constance would have been most impressed and appreciative of your outstanding efforts.
A special 'Thanks' to Louise Haselton, Artist and Lecturer, School of Art, Architecture and Design~University of South Australia for this was her last year to be a part of this significant and monumental event. Louise has been a part of Constance's award since the early days and she will be our last link from the inception ~ Louise will be missed, but we are keen to see additional bodies of work she will be developing and creating. Louise's lastest exhibition was only this year (August - September 2019) titled 'like cures like' with the Samstag Museum of Art and Louise was the feature artist of the 2019 South Australian Living Artist Festival (SALA). We wish you 'All the Best' for your future and will be most interested to see further creations and artistic endeavours.
It has been an outstanding year for art AND artists at UniSA ~ 'Well Done' on the amount of effort, time, and energy placed into this year's 2019 extravaganza.
Thanks, Blanco, the 'viewing art from a distance' member of The Roaming Stevens ~ (watching Tinto create art is one of my greatest pleasures).
BE SAFE while you roam and 'take in' as much art as you can along the way.
Peace.

This piece above was divine - installed on mirror. Outstanding ~ great future ahead for these
artists. No artist names featured on pic above or pics below - my fault entirely ~ apologies.
