What's in a ring?
Lost my engagement ring a little while ago; was shocked and horrified at first ~ then, sad ~ then, teary and I think I was even depressed. Tore The Maxwell House UP. My thoughts drifted back to how I met Tinto and there is much sadness surrounding our meeting...I was only in Australia to 'help' my Mom (whom was visiting my sister, Constance) because my sister had been killed in a horrific car accident. Mom needed me and Tinto was 'THERE' ~ always 'THERE' helping us through the darkness and the raw grief. This is the first time I ever met him - he was an enigma - gliding in and out of my sister's home - disappearing and reappearing at all the right moments.
I turned my thoughts to what we hear at different times throughout our lives ~ 'It's only a "thing" - the ring is material - material items can be replaced. People matter - not things.'
These words are true, without a doubt.
Tinto and I have a bond that is tightly held together without a ring. We have history, connectedness, an understanding of the way each other thinks and feels; we share an absolutely wicked sense of humour, and we are able to laugh at and with each other ~ AND laugh at ourselves. We support each other in endeavours. We are thankful life presented us to one another. We shake our heads in wonder at how quickly our sixth decade on Earth arrived ~ we are astonished that on some days...we walk as if we were in our ninth decade on this Earth! We still dance in the kitchen and crack ourselves up. We never know what each day 'holds for us' and we embrace the mornings and look forward to whatever comes our way. Will we have to climb a mountain today or will it be just a simple 'bump in the road'? Either way, you can bet we will be doing it together.
So, I gathered my strength as the days passed and did not allow myself to return to thoughts of 'the ring'.
Then, I had an exceptional amount of dishes to wash after a little gathering of mates ~ needed heaps of hot, sudsy water and slipped my hand into my trusty Rubbermaid dishwashing gloves. My ring finger would not GO IN...AND...there was a lump in the middle of the rubber finger slot.
Rightio. I did not need the ring, but I am awfully glad he is back on my finger - safely and soundly - exactly where he belongs - knowing that it is a symbol of what we have experienced and what is to be.
VOTE: LOVE ~ I've been told it's what makes the WORLD GO ROUND...
Cheers,
