A little more from Almunecar!
Hola from The Roaming Stevens,
Tinto and Blanco wish to report that a very loved member of our family went through surgery yesterday and came through brilliantly! It IS difficult to be half way around the world...and not to be able to be close to loved ones when they need us. We have had 3 family members experience some personal trauma this last month and we want them to know we are always thinking of them.
Still thriving in Almunecar...prices are simply LOW. Low as heck! Tinto and I always think we are robbing people when we leave a restaurant or café. The salads are full with fresh ingredients and enough to feed 4 people! The beverages (BEST BEER EVER - from an individual who does not consume beer!) and the wines are going for 'give away prices'. Tinto enjoys the rotisserie pork, tender and juicy, in vast amounts.
Enjoyed El Bacon De Cotobro night before last - host was brilliant! He gave us a warm welcome, turned on some of THE grooviest music, lit tiny candle on our table, and began to advise us of his specials. We know very little Spanish; he knew no English. Did not matter. All you should do, I strictly advise, is learn greetings, please, and thank you. There is not a lot of effort involved and the WORLD opens up to you. People read you through your eyes and if your eyes are smiling...all will go well.
I recommend this place to anyone. Tapas is brought to every table, day or night, if one orders alcoholic beverages normally at any dining site in Almunecar. We had placed our order and to our surprise a sumptuous dish of pate with home-made cranberry topping on the side was presented to us. We took a bite...looked at each other and smiled. LOVELY. I think we may have fought over last bite! We do not ever do that, but it was delicious. The best surprise was their onion soup. Tinto and I try onion soup wherever we go. This particular soup was blonde in colour, filled with heaps of thinly sliced, sautéed onions, and paired with a bleu-cheese toasty crouton. We SHOULD have stopped there, but did we? No. Tinto ordered the pork special, tender and beautifully cooked, well presented with a small dollop of perfectly pan sautéed veggies. I ordered the chicken breast, pan sautéed, drizzled with a delightful mushroom sauce and it was not heavy. It was perfect. Dogs are everywhere and very well behaved. Owners look after them and most owners are extremely attentive. A very old dog appeared at our table and half my chicken went to him...because...well...you know...those twinkling eyes looking back at you. Tinto told me to stop and I was THE reason the dog was SO overweight. True.
Once I become comfortable with this 'blogging thing' I have beautiful pics I can share and I/we want to discuss the motorhome 'way of travel' in more detail, too. Please, please ask questions. Some times we have outstanding Wi-Fi...other times we have none. IF anyone knew how inexpensive this way of travelling was, the world would be filled with Grey Nomads!
