Kings Creek Station - Kings Canyon, NT

For those wanting something private, special, and REMOTE - all you need to do is visit www.kingscreekstation.com.au and YOU SHALL FIND WHAT YOUR HEART DESIRES.

We had no clue what we were in for - we were only visiting, stopping by Kings Creek Station in Kings Canyon because Tinto remembered the area to be beautiful.  But, when someone as fabulous as Mel invites you in - starts chatting away about how special this station is...you listen.  Tinto and I were out and about at the perfect time of this year - school was not out - yet - and very few visitors about.  Mel advised us to find a nice table outside and she would bring us two glasses of Sauvignon Blanc.  Tinto said he just didn't feel like a glass of tinto - too warm!  We follow orders fairly well and exited the roadhouse to find the perfect lunch table.

Once outside and settled, sipping on the cool, crisp wine - Mel delivered lunch and a woman by the name of Julie POPS by our table to introduce herself and ask what our plans were.  Plans?  We had none, but we were considering staying at one of their bush tents.  After lunch, I went into Reception to be served by the delightful Sophie and Julie reappears, espousing the virtues of the BRAND, NEW GLAMPING accommodations.  This is a working cattle station - with their own helicopter, of course, as most have these days.  They'll fly you over the station so you can have a proper look - some stations being the size of some states in America - mind-boggling.  Bruce, the donkey was peering through his fence watching us eat and he was braying loudly (that is what donkeys do, right?) - I think they bray...in any event, he must have been lonely because in a few short, seconds, the camels came to join him and have a few bites of hay.  Amazing what a little road trip can do for the senses!

Dreamtime escarpment package - a little piece of heaven - EXACTLY what we needed and wanted at the right moment.  Julie was raving about how the glamping tents were fixed to permanent steel structures and we would have every little item we needed at our fingertips: wine, champagne...or sparkling in Australia!...bottled water, snacks, appetizers and dinner and dessert would be personally delivered and we could hop over to the next 'pad' - which was a pool enclosed by a cave - nestled in the side of the hill directly next to the tent we were invited to preview.  Our new home had an outside bathtub ~ outside shower and a sunken handmade firepit with two chairs. 'WOW'!  We were the only ones there.  There are three cabins (tents!) and the one space which has a levelled area with the pool, chair, table, and umbrella, if needed.  Late at night, YOU COULD PLUCK THE STARS FROM THE SKY.  You could not see another soul in sight - we were most definitely tucked away - complete privacy - and we appreciated it.  Tinto was a bit disappointed they had planted so many bushes and small trees in front of the verandah because these interrupted his view and he had planned to draw, but abandoned the idea and simply put his head back, crossed his legs, and took in the surroundings.  Isn't that what "getaways" are for?

I can see at least three (3) couples I know in Kapunda who own Harleys...staying on this remote cattle station and taking over the place for a weekend.  I already picture them in the pool and partying the night away!

GO.  Get there if you can.  Yes, it is a luxury price tag.  No, it is not for everyone, but they DO have many spaces and places on offer that are not 'glamping' with different price points. And, most importantly, you will be overjoyed with the service, the warm hospitality, and the hosts.  They simply want you to be happy and enjoy the time you have with them.  Can't ask for more than that...it is the night sky though - the stars are twinkling like diamonds and you get the real sense that you could reach out and touch one.  Not a sight nor an experience easily placed into words.
