What IS IT you truly want to do?

What IS IT you want to 'DO' in your life?  Is there something you think of often and imagine and when you do...you find yourself smiling?  Well, JUST DO IT.  Nike (whatever you think of the company ~ marketed those words first!)...but, they ring true.

No matter the age.  WHAT IS AGE?  I have recently discovered that it IS scientifically true - you ARE as old as you feel - the way YOU consider yourself to be can make a huge difference in how you manage your life!  That's the good news.  And, well, although it may be true that there is some 'withering of the myelination coating on neurotransmitters' (when one reaches 'Late Adulthood'!)-Haaaaaa!; it's not ALL BAD because we can strengthen some of our older grey cells, too, by LEARNING NEW SKILLS and performing actions we have never performed before.  HOW GOOD IS THAT NEWS?

Do you want to learn how to play guitar, or sing, paint a glorious golden moon or a stunning, shimmering sunset?  I want to paint sunflowers.  My entire life I have been too intimidated to paint. My beloved sister, Constance, was an artist - a young artist - winning awards from age 12, serious awards at 17 and made art her lifetime career - her museum installations have been spectacular!  My Mother, Judy, could draw and paint like the wind, no doubt, Constance received a part of Mom's gift.  I could not/would not paint when I was younger because I could not live up to what my sister had already accomplished.  Now, I'm married to an artist - our best mates are outstanding professional artists, so I still remain intimidated as Hell.  But, you know what?  I am planning on taking some time out and playing with paints.  Drawing, I have found, can be relaxing, pleasurable, and bring immense joy to the soul - like so many other things we do for the sake of FUN.

WHEN is the last time you decided to step outside of YOUR COMFORT ZONE?

After completing my university degree at the tender age of 64...I can tell you I have been out of my comfort zone for a good while.  But, it was exhilarating; plus, I met some great new mates, some outstanding professors, and strengthened my self-efficacy - which does not HURT at any age.  A really kind and accomplished woman, Molly Neel Drew Traynor, posted on her FB page the following words:

'BE BRAVE ENOUGH TO BE BAD AT SOMETHING NEW.' (Jon Acuff) ~ Aren't those powerful words?  They say it all.  It does take a bit of courage to step outside a comfort zone - but, once you step in - a huge range of emotions fill you and those feelings simply made me want to GO FURTHER.

A long time ago, my sweet Mother told me, 'We are supposed to do one thing we are afraid of every single day...' - THINK ABOUT IT.  I know my Mother is not the author of those words, but she sure used them on us as kids.

GO FOR IT.  Paint. Sing. Dance. Play a new instrument. Write a book or begin a journal for you...for your children...for your grandchildren.  It does not matter and FFS - do not concern yourself with what others think.  I have had some fairly rude and astonishing

comments about returning to university at my age...and as I turn to leave the conversation I often wonder to myself what IS it ABOUT what I AM DOING that concerns you SO much that you have to make an ugly face and say ugly words?!? Haaaaaa~MIND-BOGGLING.  The majority of people in my life have been most supportive and have 'cheered me on'.  Those are the types of people with whom you want to be surrounded ~ ALWAYS.

Carpe diem!  And, PLEASE...if anyone is doing anything out of their normal comfort zone and are loving it, PLEASE drop me a line.  I would love, more than anything, to hear about the experience.

Catch you Soon - Be Safe.  Be Kind.  A lot of people 'doing it tough' through COVID-19.

Peace,

George of The Roaming Stevens - Heading to Ayers Rock SOON!
