Early Friday evening ~ 9th of February - Memphis
Three (3) generations of females walked through some pretty powerful history in Memphis last Friday night.
The nice aspect, the pure factor was that I was able to see Beale Street through the eyes of my lovely 16 year old grand-daughter. Since I live in Australia (most of the time!) it never occurred to me that she had never seen it with her own eyes. What a sweet treat it was.
When we left Athens, Georgia it was super sunny, sunglasses were a big necessity; but, as we flew over good ole' Memphis, Tennessee it looked as if a huge downpour was on the horizon. That was okay. My, oh my...has the Memphis Airport grown up. It was impressive to see the changes - walkway to the rental car area instead of taking a shuttle to Democrat Road, plus a few artistic steel water features to view as you made your way to the car rental agency of your choice. Good for YOU, Memphis. Mem is getting all 'glammed' up.
The Comfort Inn on Front Street was located exactly where we wanted/needed it to be. One only has to walk across the street if you want to go to Bass Pro and it was only a 6 - 8 minute walk to Beale Street. Grand...simply fab to walk the streets of my childhood and my Mother's childhood and we were able to see the Front Street Deli where once, long, long ago, my maternal Great-Grandfather, George Saron, ran a tiny, quaint general store. Chills. Squeals from my grand-daughter when the horses with the carraiges and their sparkling night lights came bounding around corners on their way back to the Hotel Peabody.
Back to The Comfort Inn - was informed they conducted major renovations last year. We were given an executive suite, first floor, 2 queen size beds, all the comforts of a flashy hotel, breakfast included and you can easily walk to the Mighty Mississippi River Walk within about 2 or 3 minutes. Recommended. A good review is heading Trip Advisor's way. The staff could not have been any nicer or more accommodating. Tons of towels - any toiletries you left behind are available at Reception, too. CLEAN. CLEAN. CLEAN. Spotless and smelled fresh as a daisy. We were all smiles. This small inn should be extremely proud of itself.
Attempting to upload some wonderful pics. We did not want to stay out late; the rains were definitely on their way and I did not want my 16 year old to witness, well, you know...some of the craziness that can occur on Beale. She was able to see the mad men tumbling down the street and doing terrifying FLIPS in the air, so that alone was a real plus. These people are hugely talented and you take a deep breath as they perform their acrobatic flips - hope they never, ever land on their head!!!
No pics past the 14th of January will download from phone. Do I know why? Of course not. There are heaps of photos begging to be set free. I shall try to post in fb: theroamingstevens until I can find someone technologically savvy enough to point me in the right direction.

PS: In the meantime, Tinto is suffering ZERO degrees in Budapest...snow has been falling, but it has been described more like MUSH. Brrrrrrrrrrrr...59 degrees when we landed back in Hotlanta. That was fine by us. My heart goes out to Tinto.
Love and Peace,
