Little ole' precious, beautiful, and historic Madison, GA!
What a TREAT! Last Thursday I went to work with my daughter. The drive from Bogart to Madison was about an hour and was delightful.
We drove into a quaint, lovely old town and once we got settled on the inside...I decided to go for a walk-about through the town center. The historic district was placed on the National Register of Historic places in 1974. Entire town has an 'old time' feel to it which is simply fabulous.
You will find lots of places to dine, most are casual, and the place is literally filled with antique shops and clothing stores that entice you with truly unique items. But, the most impressive (to me) was the fact that Madison is so small, yet supports the arts in a big way. Nice galleries that are supported by local and surrounding area artists.
The Madison Courthouse is a sight to behold. The Chamber of Commerce has to be proud of its surroundings.
Many of the businesses (including the one where my daughter works) have purchased old homes in Madison and turned them into offices. Main street is lined with ginger-bread houses that are now open for business instead of private homes. The private homes are sprinkled amongst the businesses, so that makes it even sweeter.
Again, if you are visiting Atlanta...it is more than worth your time to venture out to Athens and/or Madison, Georgia. The picturesque antebellum homes alone are worth the trip. You will truly feel as if you have stepped back in time.
My photos are STUCK in time, too. Nothing will download past mid-January....so, ONCE again, I will try my best to posts on fb under: theroamingstevens.com IF you are interested in this gem of a town.
Flu still raging through this house and this area and the local school; many miserable faces staring back at each other at the moment, but we're trying to find some humour, too.
Posted with a cough, a laugh, and a pounding headache, but loving life and all it has to offer.
Blanco of The Roaming Stevens ~ and Tinto is suffering the same symptoms across the Atlantic.
NOTE: Yet again, our hearts are with the families in Florida suffering unimaginable pain and loss. WHEN will these United States of America follow Australia's lead when it comes to gun control? Australia does NOT experience the massive amount of innocent lives LOST the way America does. Mindless. Exasperating. Mind-boggling and idiotic. WHERE IS THE SHOCK? Morally bankrupt politicians make the rules. No private citizen needs military automatic weapons. WE ARE OUT OF CONTROL and the rest of the world is watching in horror. SAD.
See a few pics below:
A taste and feel of a special little space on our planet ~ Madison, Georgia. Now, how inviting is this front porch? I wouldn't mind rockin' in one of those chairs with a NICE MINT JULEP, would you???
