Tinto, the Terrorizing Gardener, a simple, country Saturday, AND DRIFTING!
What a wonderful weekend!
THANKS to the LIGHT REGIONAL COUNCIL for providing over 3,000 indigenous, native plants for the community. Great turn out; everyone seemed to be pleased and appreciative. Good for the environment - physically AND mentally good for Kapunda's inhabitants! I had NO clue THAT many people would turn up for 10 free plants. Trees were a part of the give away, too. HOW NICE WAS THAT? Returning to our house after being absent for SUCH A LONG WHILE...those plants were HUGELY appreciated. WE LOVE GREEN STUFF!
I LOVE OUR RUSTIC (rusty!) garden. She is a lovely, live 'being', but...needs continuous love and affection. We hope these will grow tall and hearty and add to the flavor of the Maxwell grounds.
Tinto and his mean, green, mulching machine: Trees, bushes, wild weeds - LOOK OUT! - if you grew too large and are overpowering the garden while we were away you're going to get a BIG HAIRCUT from Tinto. MY MAN IS ON IT. No rest for the weary.
Began the gloriously sun-filled Saturday morning by picking up our precious plants, greeting neighbours, and chatting with people we haven't seen for such a long time. It is SO funny to me that the first question I/we are asked is, 'How long are you staying?' Hmmmmm. Well...until I die or until Marcus dies or until we are called away again for family responsibility. (That kind of 'stuff' does happen when you were born in another country.) But, then...I think...that's kind of like asking 'How long are you going to live?' I don't know ~ it's strange AND funny to ME. We are here until we flap our wings again. THAT shall be my new 'pat answer'. Anticipating some really GOOD LOOKS.
We arrived back at the Maxwell House with our new plants in tow and I proceeded to make a couple of Bloody Marys. Today was going to be a celebratory day in many ways. A booking had been made at El Estanco in Greenock (please see review in Trip Advisor) and I was meeting the dearest mate for a late (very) Birthday lunch. Her birthday was many months ago and now...another one is coming up...so we landed right in the middle. Julian, the host, at El Estanco was very kind and caring and delightful and MY, OH MY, he sold us a wicked bottle of Shiraz. IF you are going to be travelling to the Kapunda/Greenock area soon - you must go AND stop in on El Estanco, plus Delluva Wines AND have a peek in the Barossa Brewing Company. Many fine establishments have been developed or grown here and it is truly delightful to see the buzz and the people enjoying rural, country South Australia. These companies are in walking distance of one another and there are other treats in Greenock, also. You won't be sorry.
Thank you, Julian. You became a GREAT MATE yesterday. Appreciated your efforts!
MAIN ENTRY. Watch out for the front door handle! It will trick you into thinking you are
locked OUT!!!
Place your orders, please. BREAKFAST SERVED ALL DAY LONG. Yummy wines and other treats in a calm, relaxed, peaceful atmosphere.
A celebration room - 40th Birthdays all over the place!
A lovely SA guy and his whippet!
El Estanco - GOOOOOD!
A quick walk approximately 2 doors down and you'll discover the lovely NEW Delluva Winery. WHAT??? Another treat SO SOON? YES. Don't forget Greenock Brewers Barossa Valley - Greenock is 'cooking with gas' at the moment - SAVOUR THE FUN.
Wayne Farquhar and his wife (and son) behind the counter at Delluva were ready to assist you and answer your questions and you will not leave doubting their love of their wines. The winery itself is fresh in spirit, décor, enthusiasm and good-tasting wines. For a change from red...if you like a nice, crisp Riesling (not oily at all)...try Delluva's . Close your eyes, enjoy a sip OR A GLASS or a bottle, you will smile. It appeared a Hens' party arrived on a BIG BUS and I think I squealed when I saw one of the outfits. I didn't mean to. Truly. I just thought she was naked. You would have squealed, too. No. No. I did not get a pic of THAT particular outfit. I do not understand how these gorgeous, young women were walking in their 3 foot tall heels. Exaaaaaaaggerating, but not by a lot. After the GELS tasted and experienced the treasure trove of Delluva wines I ONLY WISH I had been there to see them stand up from their stools. They already had a spot of trouble walking IN upon arrival!
Birthday celebrations came to a close in the sweetest way at Delluva; then, it was time to go check out what Tinto's son has been up to in our absence. A LOT. As a matter of fact...I experienced another, yet again, FIRST, on Saturday. Some quick pics of DELLUVA:
Light, bright, white, fresh, and airy - private tasting rooms available and a super spot outside by a grand, old tree. GO. SIMPLY GO AND ENJOY YOURSELF and Delluva's tasty wines.

Added review on Trip Advisor for Delluva Wines.
Many tourists from Sydney and Melbourne; a large group in a private room had just left. Doesn't this place have a NICE FEEL to it???
The entire establishment is well presented.
Too crisp even in the warm sunshine, but this
is where I wanted to be. Calming and Inviting.
Drifting. Bodie, Tinto's FINE SON, in his spare time has become quite seriously involved in a new hobby - CAR DRIFTING. WHAAAAAAT? MY question exactly. Sarah, of this Dynamic Drifting Duo, explained to me that drifting is keeping a car under control in a highly-charged OUT OF CONTROL situation. Yes. Rightio. Heaps of noise. Tons of smoke. Slide. Sliding. Drifting all over a race track. In the end I wanted desperately to be a passenger. I want to be a side-saddle drifter.
Arrived when the sun was setting ~ so special. IT is hard (tres' difficile') to take pics of a moving car. I don't mean simply moving...I mean SPEEDING BY AS IT IS DRIFTING. I thought I got the shot/I did not. Blank photo. Blank, empty pics almost every time and I snapped close to 100 pics - 80% deleted. Phone cameras are NOT DRIFTING cameras!!! It did not help that I had a really keen side-kick, by the name of Ollie, whom insisted on showing me how to take pics the right way. We became inseparable. One of the neatest photos, Ollie took and I'll share it with you. You never know who you'll meet in the WORLD OF DRIFTING.

Yes, I KNOW...dreadful photos, but I tried my heart out for you ~ take a look:
The sun is a STUNNER though, isn't she?
For some reason I love the colours in these 2 snaps ~
the colours of Australia.
Ollie, the camera monster and wait until you see HIS PIC!
Cheeky and fun Master Ollie!
LOOK! I absolutely adore this. I said, 'Ollie, the sun is setting and you got the MOON.' Ollie, replied, 'Oh, man, I wasn't trying to ~ I wanted the cars.'
My sentiments exactly.
Bodie did an amazing job. A car caught fire in
front of him (I think twice!) - quick, very fast reflexes because Bodie
got OUT OF THE WAY without a problem.
Posted by Blanco and a new-found love of drifting.
Hope your weekend was safe; hope your roamed outside of your nest even if for a short distance.
SPECIAL NOTE:
Tinto & I are sending heartfelt thoughts to the families of those whom lost loved ones in yet another school shooting; Houston, Texas U.S.A.
When will the tragedies end?
I cannot begin to imagine the horror of sending my child to school
and then...
