Little person. Hamilton, Queensland
We had an added treat and met another family member back in Brisbane prior to leaving the state. This wonderful woman found a groovy section of town close to where we were staying for our final night AND within walking distance. It was truly a bonus! The night was bright; we were by the port and this particular section of Brisbane (Hamilton) is the up and coming place to be.
It was delightful to see the number of people out (it was a Saturday night) and everyone appeared to be celebrating something! It was strange, though, in a city as large as Brisbane that some restaurants looked entirely empty while others were filled to the brim. Wouldn't that be horrible as an owner of a restaurant...to actually SEE your neighbour's venue packed...and not a soul in sight in yours? I suppose that would be the writing on the wall. How could you be in a city the size of Brisbane and NOT have guests in your establishment ~ unless you had done something terribly wrong ~ unless you were closed for the winter season? Who knows? I would suggest putting out some signs so people like me won't feel sorry for you. But, they don't care a bit what I'm thinking...!!!
Anyway as we entered the restaurant we saw that the reception desk was up three tall stairs and people were in a queue to get in...the line was not moving very quickly. Once we made our way UP the stairs our guest commented how tall she felt. She even remarked that she felt as if she had grown a few inches. I had the same EXACT thoughts. Then, I looked even closer. It was really dark inside with some funky bar lights that were emitting a soft glow, so it was hard to see, but then as my eyes adjusted...I could not believe that actually everyone was below my shoulders (far below) and beautifully, elegantly dressed - velvet, long dresses with slits, mini dresses - dinner jackets, bow ties, some men holding unlit cigars and martinis - scarves, jewels, feathers, diamonds, you name it - if it could be purchased and worn it was out for the evening; felt like a movie scene. But, then again, it seemed (to me) that I was standing on some sort of platform. Everything was out of whack - but so sophisticated and some type of celebration was occurring. I couldn't speak and I find myself staring. It was a huge, extended warm family and friend gathering of little people. Dynamic. Brilliant. Why am I so gobsmacked? Well, I don't know. Of course I have seen a little person before, but I must admit I have never seen a convergence of little people. And, WHY NOT, I wonder... Little people have the same exact lives we have - they fall in love, they get married, they have children, they have aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, dear mates, work colleagues, every aspect that encompasses our lives is reflected in theirs, too. I do believe every little person whom resides in Queensland was in this restaurant this particular evening and I wish I could have called one of them, at least, my friend. No, I did not take any photos. How could I? I tried, but...I felt guilty. Everyone looked so handsome, but my photos would have been construed as being intrusive. I wanted to tell a few of the women AND their partners how exquisite they looked, but I didn't think it would have been appreciated. And, again, I thought 'Why?' When I see anyone (just about anywhere, folks) and I think that they look especially nice...I open up my big, fat trap and I tell them. Sometimes I just wave to people if they look friendly and I like their face. (This particular action got me into a little trouble with an elderly wife in Noosa Heads, but that is another story...) Let me simply say I was enthralled by being surrounded by numerous, glamorous little people. There is an image firmly planted in my mind of this particular evening that I shall always remember of the little people and it will bring me a BIG smile.
We were there to catch up with a dear and precious woman whom has been like a daughter to Tinto. We were there to celebrate our life and enjoy the present, not dwelling on the past nor searching towards the future. We'll leave that up to everyone else.
Thanks, Melany for choosing Byblos Lebanese restaurant in Hamilton at Portside Wharf ~ what a great evening. I think everyone living in Hamilton decided to join Byblos for the night! The chef comes from Byblos city in Lebanon and his Mediterranean recipes were scrumptious. The atmosphere feels old world with a modern curve. It's a great place for young and old - big parties, small gatherings, but know that it can get quite loud with huge amounts of guests talking and very tall ceilings ~ the acoustics are anything but quiet. Get there if you can on your next visit to Brisbane; if you are there for a short, business trip...this area is not very far from the airport either. Enjoy some outstanding cuisine and dine by the river!

Surrounded by these beautiful structures up and down the port...
BYBLOS - GO!
Outside dining rooms and bars, too, with
lots of outdoor heaters.
Tinto is turning into Blanco ~ not sure what's happening!
He sure likes his Sauvignon Blanc now.
I am not a person whom shares well!
We are checking out the place and the masses are about to enter.
Next to us, beyond us, above us on the mezzanine...every single table appears to have at least 8 or 10 guests.
Our beautiful guest in an exquisite and exotic restaurant;
Great night for each of us!
We asked if we could take this home but the maitre d' said, 'Absolutely Not.'
He looked adamant.
He looked adamant.
I couldn't take this home if I tried; I'd be well over the 7 kilos now allowed on Australia's smaller airlines. Anyone want to talk about this? These small irritations make us grumpy. It appears the overwhelming masses were travelling with close to 10 kilos and the airlines were losing money. So...they LOWER the amount of kilos one can carry now and they RAISE the amount of revenue they generate. REVENUE RAISING.
She is a BEAST!
Not my best pic. Atmosphere alluring ~ sensuous, inviting,
exotic and simply delightful. Go see for yourself:
See? Sad. This restaurant was right around the corner.
Where are the people?
I do love attention to detail - adore lighting in trees as long
as it's not damaging them.
Need a bowtie ~ Hamilton is THE place!

Isn't it THE BEST feeling in the world to come back
home to your own bed?
Yes. Rightio. Yep. Indeed. The Best.
PS: As always please excuse any typos. Be safe when you roam and try to find something good in every place and every one.
A little preachy, but genuine.
Blanco, the Sauvignon side of the Roaming Stevens.
