Roman Bridge - Cordoba, Spain! - Feels like AGES ago when we visited...
What an extraordinary bridge to step upon...heaps of people, but lots of room to move about, take breaks, go to either side and view the serenity. Built: 1st Century BC originally and has been reconstructed many times, dramatically placed over the Guadalaqiuir River. An old mill is present and a looming, wonderful water wheel. San Rafael, Patron of Cordoba's (built 1651) statue is placed in centre of bridge - candles below and many were lit. Young and old stand before him, some with eyes closed...
The bridge is 250 metres long constructed upon 16 Roman foundations. Augustus, Roman Emperor commanded it be built and the bridge was used as a military route, plus offered protection from Peter the Cruel. The Moors extended the bridge to the state (size) it is today in 918.
Tourists walk towards the Calahorra Tower or back into the old town quarters. Give Cordoba at least a day's worth of your time. Enchanting.
Overcast, cool day to stroll across bridge.
Old mill???
Side view...brilliant stone work.
Looking down at structure built centuries ago...
San Rafael, Patron of Cordoba - see flowers and candles beneath him?
Tiled roof; this looks more like a mill! I love this photo!
Far behind in posting, Wi-Fi constant struggle in more remote areas, but sad performance in larger cities, too. It has been a wild last 48 hours. Tinto has maneuvered Mr. Horace on THE tiniest roads, HIGH amongst the trees and the hills, with NO security or guard rails. I CLOSE my EYES and hang on for dear life. Big. Adrenalin. Rush.

Calahorra Tower.
Gigantic wooden water wheel...
Aaaaggghhhh - this pic is hugely magnified; far down below us, across a canal on the mound of earth behind water wheel, Tinto saw a family of cats curled together. We thought we counted six - have no idea how they got there! Unbelievable...Far behind in posting, Wi-Fi constant struggle in more remote areas, but sad performance in larger cities, too. We do not want the Roaming to end...
Posted with a tinge of sadness.
Tinto & Blanco,
nestled in Mr. Horace while the rains pour down and the skies grow black.
- Meeting the kindest and most interesting people along the way -
One of the sweetest attributes of
ROAMING.
TRY IT.
