The Letter 'X'.

While roaming further north in Spain, I was reading the highway signs and commented how many towns begin with the letter 'X', yet they are pronounced with the sound of 'Z'.  Hmmmmm...

I asked Tinto to name anything or to say a word that began with the letter 'x'.  He replied, 'Exhume'.  I said, 'No, Darling, that begins with an 'e'.'  He retorted, 'Well, you don't pronounce the 'e'.'  I agreed, but said that 'Exhume' did not count.  We went back and forth.  Tinto tried 'excited'...'extreme'...I kept refusing his contributions and I said, 'See, we don't really need the letter 'X'; we could easily replace 'x' with 'z'.

I mean what do we call a (sad) facility which holds wild, exotic animals?  A zoo.  Why isn't it spelled 'Xoo'?  Which animal has striking black and white stripes and why is it NOT spelled 'Xebra'?   And, Xanadu...how do we pronounce that?  Xylophone, too.  GHEEEEEEZ.

See where this discussion is going?  But, Tinto said, 'Without the 'X' we would have no sex!'  REALLY????  REALLY???? WHAAAAAT????  Then, Tinto snorted, 'What about Tyrannosauraus Rex?'  I snickered that he was convoluting the conversation.  I began inserting 'z's instead of 'x's.

Example:  "I would be ezcited to ezhume the body after such eztreme skiing and I look forward to having sez with you, too.'  See?  Takes only a little to get UZED to this!!!  Ha!!!!!!!!!

So, WHY is the 'X' necessary?  Algebra, Geometry, and X-Rays.  Anything else?  Oh, yeah, 'X' marks the spot.

Tinto and I never even uttered the word X-Ray.  Somehow, Z-Ray doesn't do it for me.  OR...perhaps it is better?  I mean, we do get ZAPPPED when we have an X-RAY.  Hmmmmmmm, again.

Posted with confusion, yet clarity.
