Boxing Day - Muncarapacho, Portugal...
Tinto and I returned to the scene of the first bit of madness in Portugal - Route 66 Campground.
Feliz Navidad, Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah! We hope your day was beautiful and filled with the people you love. Tinto and I are gently strolling along with great pause...taking time to reflect upon 2017 and remaining grateful for our time together. We think of our fabulous extended family every single day with appreciation.
To refresh your memory this eclectic, funky place is owned by French, loaded with French visitors and others from Holland, Belgium with 1 guest representing England. Little, if any English spoken...so a lot of MISUNDERSTANDINGS and sweet chuckles with a few winks thrown in.
More guests than ever this time around - extremely lively. The owners are creating at least 20 new pitches, too. GREAT for them, but it won't feel the same (to us) when it fills with homes on wheels.
In most of Europe, especially France, Christmas is celebrated on Christmas Eve. We enjoyed a lovely, loud, 'long table community dinner' which was long lasting, began late, and people lingered. Ha! Lord, Karaoke was involved and we did not see that coming. Tinto and I kept our heads DOWN - a LOT. The festivities began with a blue drink...probably never a good thing!
Every guest on site was asked to prepare an appetizer; it was most delightful to see starters (nibbles) made by tourists from around Europe. Food was plentiful, pleasing to the eye AND tastebuds. Music and song blaring...BLASTING...better description!
Perhaps one of the sweetest couples I have ever had the pleasure of meeting immediately to my left and across from them were seated their good mates. Life long couples whom matched each other so beautifully. One conservative, one extroverted! Tinto and I had a blast interacting with them, mostly with some sort of sign language. A younger couple (and very much in love or lust, not completely certain!?!)...were still camping at Route 66 when Tinto & I returned for Christmas. They MADE our night with laughter, craziness, and they are both very giving. JOY.
Chef took his time preparing his main course with love and attention. Hot, steamy bowls of braised beef with jus, fresh green beans, and baskets of bread were abundant. More blue drinks...'Merci, but Non!'
As previous Route 66 gathering, we brought to this Christmas dinner our own crockery and cutlery, our Route 66 pillows to cushion our bony bottoms from the hard, wooden benches! Glasses were provided for much welcomed wine - plastic cups to be exact.
Apparently, this shindig went well into the wee hours of the morning while Tinto and I snuck away quietly in the night. Singer was still crooning AWAY.
This perhaps, was THE most unusual Christmas meal Tinto and I have ever experienced together. It IS one we shall never forget. EVER.
When one rises in the morning...one only has to look out a window to discover what adventurous creatures may be enjoying breakfast by your home.
Doves pull at my heartstrings whenever they appear.
Yes, keep reading - outside passenger window! 'On WHICH Day of Christmas?' Haaaa!
Mr. Sheep in front of Mr. Horace; much larger than he looks! Announcement made this morning - a ewe gave birth to one black baby and one white. I will do my best to capture precious, new beings. Wonderful news for the
ALMOST New Year!
Read below: Which couple could this be?
Our most talented and handsome singer!
And...hmmmm, which couple could
they be?
We are watching a guest who simply cannot manage to NOT dance. My nice, sweet conservative dinner mate gave Tinto Rabbit Ears!!!
And, NO...you would never guess whom this couple might be. Continue reading!
