Lagos, Portugal...graffiti - aaaggghhhh!
Lagos, (pronounced Lah-goosh!) is such a quaint and lovely spot on the planet. 16th century walls enclose the town's ancient, cobbled lanes. This was Portugal's launch pad for the Age of Discovery. Regrettably and sadly, this was Europe's first slave market.
Lagos has a lot to offer: kayak and hiking tours, restaurants, outdoor cafes, music coming from every corner and alley, an exhilarating night life, too. It IS worth a visit.
Let me reiterate...graffiti is splattered in every nook and cranny in Spain AND Portugal. Understood that people need to express themselves, but it makes me seethe to see marks on old stone ruins. IF these people KNEW the history of their ancestors and the fact that it took hours to extract the stone to build their houses and walls...would they continue with their actions??? I took pics of the more dynamic or intriguing graffiti. Some of it is really good; others look like cats pissing on their territory - sloppy, uncaring, defiant. Maddening.
Compelling.
