Review: Camping Olhao, Portugal

Enormous. GRAND, splendid home (fenced) right in the centre of the grounds.  I was in awe of this home, but unable to get close enough to take pics.  Tinto and I did wonder if the entire campground used to be former gardens to such a huge home.  ???  At least 500 or more pitches, vast amount of permanent residents.  Many Brits spend 6 months of their year here.  Newsagent, CIGARS (for Christmas!), small market, cafe, wonderful restaurant where you can meet people any time of the day if you like.  I only saw one young boy entire time there.  This felt like a retirement village, but we spent most days in town.  The grounds are so expansive, when/if Reception needs you they ring a bell over a loudspeaker and your named is called.  Whaaaat? Yes, true.

Facilities clean as a whistle.  The entire site neat and owners are firm believers in recycling.  Assorted bins everywhere and we respect that.  The majority of campsites in Spain and Portugal recycle.  Well done.

This place has a lot of people coming and going each and every day.  Reception could not employ a nicer or more capable staff.  You are given an ID card with your passport photo imprinted on it when you arrive and you are supposed to have it with you at all times.  Yes, that is correct.

Five (5) days = 45.00 Euros.  Whaaaaaaat?  Off season pricing, no doubt, but...STILL!!??!  We feel as if we are stealing.  Truly amazing.  Restaurant meals are nice, beer COLD...bargain basement pricing and they do not know what a standard pour of wine looks like!  Your glass will be filled to the brim.  Craziness.

Tinto and I were fortunate to meet a fab couple from England and their grand dog, Ella.  We had no idea that a jam session had been scheduled for the day and music was due to begin 20 minutes after we arrived.  One of our new mates is an excellent bass guitarist; 4 or more people joined him, plus a lady who could actually sing!!!  Jam session began @ 3:00pm - ended @ 9:00pm.  'WOW'  Zeplin to Christmas carols to John Denver to Blues, a bit of Van Morrison ...then more carols sprinkled in.  No rest for the weary.

IF you like well managed places that are enormous.. you will like this spot.  A true value is:  6 or 7 minutes to town on scooter.  We have made plans to move back to Route 66 for Christmas.

Smart, brilliant, chocolate brown Standard Poodle, 'Ella' - ALL natural -NO bling or weird hair style.  Ha!  Well-mannered because she is SO bloody smart.  Yes, Ella took a piece of
my heart, too.
Musicians tuning.
Bright, cheery day that lasted well
into the evening.  Gracias for new mates and precious memories.

Caio Camping Olhao!
Feliz Navidad from
Tinto & Blanco
